Aktau Apartment

Aktau, Kazakhstan | 2019 | 613 sq. ft

This project explores how Kazakh culture, family identity, and a sense of place can be expressed through interior design. The living room as a heart space is divided into two areas: a TV lounge and a dining space centered around a low table, which is traditional for Kazakh culture. The carpet underneath has a distinctive Kazakh pattern with colorful accents celebrating the local cultural heritage. In the organized niche, we placed a vase with reeds as an artifact of the steppe area - a defining element of the Kazakh landscape. Arched openings draw inspiration from Islamic architecture. Gold accents, including the finish of the kitchen hood box, reference ideas of prosperity, power, and artistic expression.
